This policy explains how Paul Francis, trading as A Ship of Thoughts ABN 96 147 321 468 (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects your personal information when you use iSteerMe. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
The short version: we collect your email so we can give you your assessment result and your access, we use a payment provider so we never see your card details, we can see your assessment answers and AI Captain chats but only look at them for support, safety and improving the service, we don't sell your data to anyone, and you can ask us to delete everything at any time.
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name and email address | When you take the assessment or create an account | To send your result, give you access, provide support, and send you emails about the program |
| Your assessment answers and result, including anything you write in free-text or comment boxes | When you complete the assessment | To generate and show your result, and to improve the assessment |
| Account and progress data (login details, which chapters you've watched) | While you use the program | To run your account and remember where you're up to |
| Purchase records (what you bought, when, amount) | At checkout | To give you access, handle refunds, and meet our tax and record-keeping obligations |
| Messages you send the AI Captain | When you use the chat | To generate replies and to improve the assistant |
| Emails and support messages you send us | When you contact us | To help you |
| Technical and usage data (IP address, device and browser type, pages visited, referring site) | Automatically, via cookies and analytics | To keep the site working, understand how it's used, and measure our advertising |
We do not collect your payment card details. Card payments are processed directly by our payment provider, who handles that information under their own privacy terms.
Your assessment answers, any comments you write, and anything you type into the AI Captain may say something about how you're feeling. We treat that information as sensitive and private. We collect it only with your consent — that is, by you choosing to complete the assessment or use the chat — and we use it only to provide the Service to you. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not disclose it to anyone except the service providers listed below who help us run the Service.
We want to be straight with you about this. Your conversations with the AI Captain are not private in the sense of nobody ever being able to see them. They are stored on our systems and processed by the AI provider that powers the assistant, and a small number of authorised people — in practice, Paul — may access and review them in limited circumstances:
We do not browse conversations out of curiosity, we do not use them for advertising or profiling, we do not disclose them to anyone outside the providers listed above, and we never sell them. Where we review chats to improve the assistant, we use them in a de-identified form wherever we practically can.
The same applies to your assessment answers and any comments you write. They are stored with your account, they can be seen in our admin tools, and they are reviewed only for the reasons listed above. Because both may reveal something about your mental or emotional state, we treat them as sensitive information and handle them with the extra care described in the section above.
Two practical things worth knowing: the AI Captain is not monitored in real time and is not monitored for self-harm or other risk, so it is not a way to reach a person urgently — if you need help now, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or 000. And, as with any online service, please don't put information into the chat that you would be uncomfortable having stored, such as passwords or other people's private details. You can ask us to delete your chat history at any time.
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the providers we need to run iSteerMe, and only for that purpose. These currently include:
Some of these providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union. Where that happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you logged in, remember your preferences, measure traffic, and understand which ads bring people to the site. If we run advertising on platforms such as Meta or Google, those platforms may set cookies to measure the results. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may then not work properly.
If you give us your email, we may send you emails about iSteerMe — your result, the program, and occasional offers or new resources. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Unsubscribing from marketing doesn't stop essential emails about your account or purchase.
We keep your account and purchase information for as long as you have access, and for as long afterwards as the law requires us to keep financial records (generally seven years). Assessment results and chat messages are kept while your account is active, or until you ask us to delete them. Where we no longer need information, we delete it or de-identify it.
We use reputable providers, restrict access to your information to those who need it, and rely on encrypted connections and secure logins. No online service can be completely secure, but if a data breach ever occurred that was likely to cause you serious harm, we would notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required by law.
iSteerMe is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian's involvement. If you believe we hold information about a child, contact us and we'll delete it.
You can ask us at any time to:
Email support@isteerme.com and we'll respond within 30 days. We may need to verify who you are first. Deleting your account will end your access to the program.
If you think we've mishandled your personal information, please tell us first at support@isteerme.com — we'll investigate and reply within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
We may update this policy as iSteerMe grows. The current version is always on this page with the date at the top. If a change materially affects you, we'll let account holders know by email.
